Phase 2 Review: March 21, 2018
The goal of this phase is to challenge our preconceived notions of place and the city through detailed observation. The project site in Downtown Lubbock will be documented and investigated through photography, surveying and mapping. We will scrutinize the latent physical, environmental and temporal qualities of the site for opportunities and possibilities for architectural intervention.
Individually, the students will develop diagrammatic interpretations of the site overlaid on plans and sections drawn to scale from analog and digital measurements. These drawings may focus on building massing, sunlight, watersheds, transparency, pedestrian circulation, vegetation, historical development, infrastructure, etc. While developing our knowledge of the site, we will continuously test the architectural concepts developed in the previous phase in situ. This phase will conclude with a presentation of each student’s project concept synthesizing site, program and precedent analysis and provides a strategy for further development of the project in the second half of the semester.

Deliverables:
1. Text: Title for project and 250 words describing the project design approach.
2. Drawings:
1. Text: Title for project and 250 words describing the project design approach.
2. Drawings:
-
Project concept diagram situating synthesis of precedent, program and site.
-
Three (3) diagrams that explain the relationship between the site and the building. Examples
include: building massing, transparency and views, relationship between interior/exterior, sun,
climate, and pedestrian circulation.
-
Ground level floor plan with site including neighboring buildings and streets at 1/16”=1’-0”
-
Floor plans at 1/16”=1’-0”
-
Two (2) building cross sections with site information (ie. sidewalk, curb, street, alley, adjacent
buildings/vegetation) at 1/16”=1’-0”
-
Street Elevation of proposed building in urban context at 1/32”=1’-0”
-
2 study models of building massing with site at 1/16”=1’-0”
-
1 final massing model with site at 1/16”=1’-0” that includes site context (surrounding streets and
adjacent buildings). This model will be well crafted and presentation quality!
